Kaveh Tagavi, professor in the University of Kentucky Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been elected Senate Council Vice Chair-Elect. He will begin serving a one-year term as Senate Council Vice Chair on June 1, 2019.
As Vice Chair, Tagavi will be expected to attend Senate and Senate Council meetings and preside in the absence of the Senate Council Chair.
Tagavi joined the UK College of Engineering faculty in 1985. While maintaining a robust teaching and research profile, Tagavi has consistently found opportunities to serve. He has twice been the Academic Ombud for UK (2005-2006; 2008-2009) and served as Senate Council Chair (2006-2008). In addition to participating on many committees, Tagavi was the College of Engineering’s sole elected representative to the Graduate Council (1994-1997) and held the role of faculty marshal for UK Commencement ceremonies (1995-2000).
Within the College of Engineering, Tagavi has been director of assessment (2009-2011), associate dean for assessment (2011-2013), director of graduate studies for the Department of Mechanical Engineering (1991-2000) and advisor for the UK chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
