“You Belong Here: Black Students in Engineering” to Take Place October 2

Alumnus and interim vice president of institutional diversity at UK Dr. George Wright will deliver a talk to those in attendance.

The University of Kentucky will host an event titled “You Belong Here: Black Students in Engineering” on October 2, 2020, from 12-1 p.m. Alumnus and interim vice president of institutional diversity at UK Dr. George Wright will deliver a talk to those in attendance.

Dr. Wright received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UK in history and his doctoral degree in history from Duke University. In 2004, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from UK and was inducted into the Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2005. He became interim vice president of institutional diversity for UK in July.

Dr. Shakira Hobbs, assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, will host the event. Special music will be provided by Dr. Deborah C. Hodge, Kentucky State University alumna, Alpha Kappa Alpha alumna and retired New York educator.

The event will be held at the amphitheater behind Memorial Hall. Snacks will be provided.
