November 16, 2020

Students were to design upstream processes for the production of nitrogen and hydrogen as well as the downstream ammonia process.

Two University of Kentucky teams received honors at the 2020 American Institute of Chemical Engineering (AIChE) Design Competition. This year’s design was “Modular Distributed Ammonia Synthesis.” It required the students to design upstream processes for the production of nitrogen and hydrogen as well as the downstream ammonia process.

The first-place team, which received the William A. Cunningham Award for Best Overall Design in the Team Category, consisted of Mariah Bezold, Clayton Tucker, Patrick Nichols and Sarah Kintner.

Honorable Mention for Best Overall Design in the Team Category went to the team consisting of Hannah Dvorak, Rachel Monroe, Kelly Lynch and Mitchell Stokan.
