Career Fair Prep and Networking Events

Engineering Resume Review/Interview Drop Ins

Quick 10-15 min meetings for help with your resume, letter writing, interviewing or searching for a job or internship opportunity. During the semester, you can stop by every Tuesday 1:00-4:00pm & Wednesday 2:00-5:00pm in the Career Development offices in the James & Gay Hardymon Center for Student Success, 3rd Floor FPAT.  We are also available for appointments, which you can schedule via Handshake.

Career Connections - September 14, 2018 - Resumé Reviews and Mock Interviews between 10 am and 2 pm, Networking Practice 2:30 pm to 4 pm

Sign up for a resume review and/or a mock interview with an Engineering employer through Handshake's Interview section starting from August 28 to Sept. 4.  The Career Connections event will take place on Sept. 14 between 10 am and 2 pm. This event can be counted as a VIP resume review requirement.This year, employers have also volunteered to stay for a networking practice event  from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. 

Career Fair Prep Workshops

Learn how to research employers, prepare for the fair, and get the most out of attending the career fair by joining one of the 45-minute Career Fair Prep workshops offered by Engineering Career Development (taking place in FPAT 354) and the Graham Center for Career Management in the Gatton College of Business (taking place in B&E). All seminars are identical, regardless of where they are offered.

Students who attend a session below and complete other VIP Program Requirements will gain admission to the Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair 30 minutes before the official start time.

  • Thursday, Sept. 20 – 2:00-2:50 - B&E 230

 

College of Engineering VIP Program

To become a career fair VIP, you must complete a few career fair preparatory tasks.

  1. Pick up a VIP card from Engineering Career Development in 355 FPAT.
  2. Log in and activate your Handshake account (uky.joinhandshake.com) - use your link blue ID and password - DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT!  Update and upload your resume to Handshake.
  3. Attend one 45-minute Career Fair Prep workshop (dates listed above) - collect a signature from the workshop presenter on your VIP card
  4. Resumé Critique:
    1.  Participate in Career Connections on Sept 14 between 10:00am - 4:00pm on the 3rd floor of FPAT. Pre-registration/sign up required through Handshake OR
    2. Have an on-campus career professional critique your resumé
  5. Complete two of the following six options:
    1. Download the Career Fair+ app - Available on both Apple Store & Google Play, search "Career Fair Plus"

    2. Create or Update your LinkedIn profile

    3. Like us on Facebook: facebook.com/ukyengrcareer

    5. Complete a practice interview on InterviewStream at www.uky.interviewstream.com and email EngrCareer@uky.edu after you complete the interview

    6. Completed RSVP for "Evening with Industry" event (only open to students graduating in the next year) sponsored by SWE for graduating seniors & graduate students

  6. Return the completed VIP cards to John Beck, 355F F. Paul Anderson Tower by Thursday, Sept. 20 before 5 pm.  You will be able to pick up your VIP name tag on Monday, Sept. 24 outside 355K F. Paul Anderson Tower (Melissa Brown's office) or at the career fair's VIP registration table.

Fall 2018 Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair - September 25, 2018, noon to 4 pm (VIPs enter at 11:30 am)

The Fall Engineering and Computer Science Fair will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 from noon to 4 pm at the new Bill Gatton Student Center. Students who have completed our the VIP program before the fair can enter as early as 11:30 am. The VIP program requires students to attend a career fair prep seminar (dates will be announced at the start of the fall semester), have a resume reviewed by UK Career Development staff or employer representatives at our Career Connections Event on Sept. 14, and a few other steps, like a completed Handshake account profile.

Fall Engineering Evening with Industry

This event, hosteed by the Society of Women Engineers, is a networking event for all graduating seniors, and graduating graduate students in engineering and computer science. Meet employers who recruit full-time positions in a networking event the night before the career fair. The event requires RSVP for student attendees, and all graduating seniors and grad students who are completing their degree in the next year will receive an invitation about three weeks prior to the event. 

Co-op and Internship Fair, October 18, 2018

Join 30 engineering employers seeking students for internships or co-ops on Thursday, October 18, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm in the Hilary J. Boone Center. View the Co-op and Internship Fair Employer registrations in Handshake. Starting in September, you can also do your research on the event app Career Fair Plus (available for free for Android and iOS). The lists updates as new employers register.
