The University of Kentucky’s ENGINEERED 4 SUCCESS Summer Diversity Workshop is designed to, specifically, engage high school underrepresented diversity students (rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent high school graduates). Participants will be exposed to engineering and the blueprint on how to obtain a career within the engineering field. They will be exposed to students and faculty within the field to gain insight on their experiences and to decrease learning curves associated with pursuing this type of career.
Engineered 4 Success Diversity Workshop
In conjunction with Engineers Day (or “E-Day”) every February, Engineered 4 Success allows underrepresented students the opportunity to hear from a diverse panel of engineering students, faculty, and industry professionals. Demonstrations and presentations from current students and organizations, such as the National Society of Black Engineers, will also be featured. There will be a wealth of information provided for parents and students about the process of preparing for a career in engineering. All ages welcome!

Engineering Girls Day
Hosted by the College of Engineering and the UK chapter of the Society of Women Engineers, this event is geared toward female high school juniors and seniors who are interested in learning more about engineering at UK. Attendees will learn more about our majors, scholarships, co-ops & internships, and much more. You will interact with current engineering students and some of our female engineering faculty. You will also be able to tour a room in our new engineering residence hall.

Designed for female high school students (rising sophomore, juniors, and seniors) who are considering engineering as a possible major and career. Participants in the workshops will explore the world of engineering with UK faculty members and students through hands-on experiments in a collegiate environment. The goal of the WIE Summer Workshop Series is to provide young women with knowledge and support for their decision to pursue engineering as a course of study in college. The Diversity Peer Mentoring Program is a unique opportunity for students from underrepresented ethnicities to connect with an upper-level mentor and fellow mentees during their first year on campus through the Engineering Residential College LLP.
The University of Kentucky College of Engineering and the UK Center for Applied Energy Research have established a research-based mentoring program with funding from the Broadening Participation in Engineering (BPE) program of the National Science Foundation (NSF). The BPE mentoring program is designed to increase the number of African-American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American students involved in undergraduate research and graduating with an engineering degree.
The Women in Engineering (WIE) Mentoring Program is a unique opportunity for women in their first year in the UK College of Engineering who aren’t already assigned a peer mentor through the Engineering Residential College Living Learning Program. The WIE Mentoring Program allows these young ladies to connect with a second-year engineering peer mentor and fellow mentees during their first year on campus. Mentors and mentees meet regularly for group activities, study sessions, alumni networking, and for fun activities on-campus and around Lexington. Programs like this allow students outside the Engineering Living Learning Program to form a supportive community, which research shows can lead to significantly higher retention, higher GPA, and greater student satisfaction.
The Engineering Alumni Mentoring Program (AMP) is designed to facilitate the sharing of knowledge between those with experience (our alumni mentors) and those who are still developing their professional identities (our undergraduate engineering students). AMP seeks to foster meaningful and productive one-on-one relationships between alumni and current College of Engineering students. Females and underrepresented minority students in their sophomore year and beyond are eligible to participate in AMP.

The University of Kentucky has a mission and commitment to aggressively recruit and retain students from all segments of society, including African American, American Indian, Asian or Pacific Islander, Hispanic, and Alaskan Native students. Factors which are considered in the holistic evaluation of William C. Parker Scholarship applications include test scores, grades, an essay, leadership experience, extracurricular activities, awards and recognition, community service, and contribution to diversity. Awards will be based on the applicant’s ranking within the competitive pool, with values ranging from $5,000 to $15,000.
To apply, students must complete the William C. Parker Scholarship application and submit a high school transcript with qualifying unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale to the Office of Undergraduate Admission by December 1.
