What advantages and opportunities are available to you as an undergraduate engineering student at the University of Kentucky? Here are a few:
An engineering education comprises much more than classroom learning. Engineers who are exposed to different disciplines and contexts expand their problem-solving capacity. That’s why our First-Year Engineering program assigns hands-on engineering challenges early in your engineering studies. The Engineering Residential College—UK’s largest Living Learning Program—is no typical residence hall; it harnesses the collective brainpower of engineering students from all disciplines. Employers partnering with our Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) pay you to apply your UK education to their unique challenges. International study programs expand your world and place your education in a global context. When you put it all together, an engineering graduate from UK is far more than someone who can only ace a test.
Most of our students have secured engineering jobs or graduate school acceptance before they graduate. That’s because we emphasize career development early in your academic journey. Our friendly Career Development Group experts know what it takes to succeed. They can help you secure a co-op rotation, assist you with a new resume and even coach you before job interviews. Plus, at UK, employers come to you! In addition to on-campus interviews by visiting companies, UK hosts two massive career fairs a year. Imagine more than 100 companies eager to interview you for co-op, internship and full-time positions! Not only will you have a desirable major or degree, but you’ll also have the confidence and professionalism needed to succeed.
Options for concentrated study enable you to stand out on a resume. Minors in biomedical engineering and computer science, as well as certificates in automotive production engineering, biopharmaceutical engineering, aerospace, power and energy and more, give you an added edge of specialization. In addition, our Engineering/MBA Dual Degree and University Scholars programs allow you to earn both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a condensed timeframe.
Located in the heart of Lexington, UK’s beautiful campus balances approximately six million square feet in new construction with ornate, historic buildings and abundant green space. It is crowned by the stunning $175 million Student Center slated to open in 2018. When you’re not in class or studying, you can avail yourself to student organizations geared around engineering competitions and community outreach. If you would rather give your brain a rest and blow off steam, Lexington features an attractive downtown, Keeneland Race Track and state parks within a short driving distance. And, of course, Wildcats passionately support their athletic teams.
