Priority registration advising instructions for ECE sophomores, juniors, and seniors

(ECE freshmen are to meet/contact their College advisors for more information.)

Complete and detailed information about advising can be found on the Electrical and Computer Engineering Advising Canvas course! Please contact your advisor if you do not have access to the page titled: ECE Undergraduate Advising 2020-2021.

Students currently on Co-op:  Follow steps 2 & 4 below, and email Danielle (dgreenhinkle@uky.edu) or Will (will.aaron@uky.edu).

Follow these five steps to make the advising process more productive:

  1. Schedule an appointment with your advisor.  Appointments will be available from September 16-November 4. Advisor availability is limited, so if you wait to schedule your appointment – or if you miss your appointment – you may delay your registration until the Add/Drop window (November 9-January 12, 2021).

All ECE students will make their appointment through the online appointment scheduler on myUKThis system works best with FireFox and Explorer browsers. Safari and Chrome are problematic and the UK mobile app may or may not be compatible depending on the device used.

    • Visit myUK, then “myInfo”, then “myAppointments.” Click on “College of Engineering” and “Priority Registration-30." Your advisor’s name should appear with a calendar. Click on a blue date, see the advisor’s availability for that date and then click on a time that is convenient for you. More dates will be added as these fill-up.
    • Appointments are available in 30-minute increments. They must be made and/or canceled 24 hours or more in advance. If you need to cancel, please follow the same directions for making an appointment.
  2. Course Planning: Prior to your advising appointment, please log into your myUK GPS Planner and plan courses for the spring 2021 semester AND fall 2021 semester. If you are graduating in May 2021, you will only need to plan spring 2021 courses. Pre-planning your courses is required by UK and the College of Engineering. If you fail to plan for these two semesters you will be asked to reschedule your advising appointment due to your lack of preparation. This could result in a delay of your course registration as appointments fill rapidly. During your appointment, you and your advisor will review and discuss your selected courses.
  3. Faculty Mentor:  You will meet with your academic advisor BEFORE your faculty mentor. You must meet with your faculty mentor by November 20th. Each faculty mentor will have their own sign-up process (usually through email or office hours). Faculty mentors are assigned by the last digit of your student ID number. After you have met with your faculty mentor, please upload your signed advising worksheet to Canvas.
  4. Regularly check for HOLDS on your record (i.e. HAVEN, C.A.T.S., unpaid parking tickets, library fines, admissions, any unpaid UK bill, etc.) on myUK/myInfo/myStops and Holds. An “advisor hold” is normal; this will be lifted after you have met with your academic advisor. You will not be able to register until all holds are cleared.
  5. Keep your appointment. Please be courteous of everyone’s time — the myAppointment system allows for cancellations 24 hrs in advance. Contact your advisor for last minute cancellations. If you are late for your appointment, please understand you may need to reschedule.

We are looking forward to meeting with you and the opportunity to assist your preparation for your next successful semester!
