Chapelin receives American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant

November 04, 2021

Fanny Chapelin, research assistant professor in the F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering, has had her proposal titled “Magnetic Resonance imaging of tumor associated macrophage changes with therapy” selected for an Institutional Research Grant by the American Cancer Society (ACS-IRG).

The ACS-IRG Program will support her efforts to gather crucial preliminary data for the successful application of larger grants to National Institutes of Health and foundations. Using these funds, Chapelin will develop magnetic resonance (MR) imaging methods to image tumor-associated macrophages in head and neck cancer with the outlook of translation to clinical protocols. If successful, the imaging techniques developed could impact patient care at the UK Markey Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated center in Kentucky.

Supported by IRB-19-140-31 from the American Cancer Society.
