Students Bring New-school Optimization to an Old School Radio Station

On March 7, 1988, WRFL (“Radio Free Lexington”) began broadcasting on 88.1 FM from the University of Kentucky campus. Since that day, the station has put a live human being in the DJ’s chair 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Three UK Students Recognized by Goldwater Scholarship Program

The University of Kentucky Office of Nationally Competitive Awards has announced that senior Benjamin Riley, of Louisville, Kentucky, has been awarded the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Riley is among 240 students nationwide awarded the Goldwater Scholarship this year. This year’s Goldwater Scholars were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,286 mathematics, science and engineering students who were nominated by the faculties of 470 colleges and universities nationwide.

Additionally, two other UK students, Aaron Mueller, of Louisville, and Connor VanMeter, of Lexington, were among 307 students to receive honorable mention recognition from the esteemed scholarship program.

UK College of Engineering to Induct Five Alumni Into its Hall of Distinction

On April 21, 2017, the University of Kentucky College of Engineering will induct five alumni into its Hall of Distinction. Being inducted are: Allen W. Brown, of Plano, Texas; William Todd Johnson, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Elmer T. Lee, of Frankfort, Kentucky (posthumous induction); Javaid Masoud, of St. Paul, Minnesota; and Mark D. Whitley, of Fort Worth, Texas.

Society of Women Engineers Named UK Student Organization of the Year
