The Institute of Noise Control Engineering of the USA (INCE-USA) Board of Directors has elected University of Kentucky’s David Herrin, professor of vibrations and acoustics in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, an INCE Fellow.
INCE Fellows are nominated by INCE members. Nominee sponsors prepare a nominate package containing a minimum of three supporting letters from members or other individuals with direct knowledge of the nominee’s qualifications, along with a CV of the nominee. The package is reviewed by the membership committee.
Contributions that are considered are service to INCE-USA, contributions to the profession of noise control engineering through INCE-USA, contributions to the advancement of the profession outside of INCE-USA, in addition to others.
Herrin was selected as an INCE Fellow for his service as director and vice president of INCE, NoiseCon and InterNoise conference chair and technical chair, and NCEJ associate editor. In addition to his contributions to noise control engineering as a professor, by regularly presenting substantive papers at conferences, sharing ideas and providing guidance to his students and professional associates and leading the University of Kentucky Vibro-Acoustic Consortium, which provides member services in muffler acoustics and a wide variety of noise control needs for commercial industry.
As director of the Kentucky Vibro-Acoustic Consortium, Herrin and his associates work with member companies to utilize software for noise and vibration modeling, prediction and control. The goal of the Consortium is to understand and more effectively use vibro-acoustics software for the design of quiet products.
Herrin and the 2024 class of INCE Fellows were formally recognized at NOISE-CON in New Orleans in June.
