Sarah Thomas is a graduate student and research assistant in the F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME). She says she was initially drawn to the program by its diverse research laboratories and experienced faculty, but since then has discovered that BME exposes students to the many disciplines while encouraging specialization through research involvement. The curriculum has solidified Sarah’s knowledge in fundamentals while allowing her to tailor her coursework to align with her personal interests.
Sarah also says that the sense of community within UK’s BME department sets it apart. Her favorite graduate memories are spending time with faculty and fellow students at conferences, department get-togethers such as BME’s biannual picnic and sporting events.
“Without a doubt, had I known the professional and personal growth I would experience as a result of my graduate career in F. Joseph Halcomb III, MD Department of Biomedical Engineering, I would not have considered going anywhere else,” she says.
