Raymond-Blythe Professor of Civil Engineering Nikiforos Stamatiadis has received research funding from the Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program.

According to the program’s web page, "The Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program (GDFP) is a scholar exchange program for Greek universities to host a Greek-born scholar in the areas of collaborative research, curriculum co-development and/or graduate student teaching and mentoring. The GDFP is funded by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to the Institute of International Education (IIE) in collaboration with the Fulbright Foundation in Greece. With this grant, IIE aims to support 40 fellowships over two selection cycles that will create collaborative, mutually beneficial engagements between Greek and North American academics and universities."

Dr. Stamatiadis will be working with colleagues at the National Technical University in Athens (NTUA), where they will develop research safety issues as they relate to nighttime driving, collaborate on proposal development, and mentor a group of graduate students on their thesis research while serving as one of their supervisors. He will also attempt to recruit them for further studies at UK. Finally, Stamatiadis plans to use the fellowship to develop student exchanges and education abroad programs as well as establish cooperative efforts and agreements between the UK College of Engineering and NTUA.
