Shelton Named John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar

Abigail Shelton, a senior majoring in electrical engineering, has been selected as one of seven Power & Energy Society (PES) Scholars to receive a John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar Award. The IEEE PES John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar award is presented to the top PES Scholar recipient within each Region.

Abigail Shelton, a senior majoring in electrical engineering, has been selected as one of seven Power & Energy Society (PES) Scholars to receive a John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar Award. The IEEE PES John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar award is presented to the top PES Scholar recipient within each Region. In addition to being recognized as a PES Scholar, Shelton will receive a cash prize, twelve months of complimentary student membership in IEEE and IEEE Power & Energy Society and an honorarium to attend next August’s IEEE PES General Meeting in Portland, Oregon.

In addition to pursuing a PEIK certificate, Shelton is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, the Student Sustainability Council, Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Student Council and Eta Kappa Nu. Earlier this year, she was named University of Kentucky Student Employee of the Year and received the H. Alex Romanowitz Memorial Award from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Shelton is scheduled to graduate in May 2018.
