At the 2024 IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Transmission & Distribution (T&D) International Conference and Exposition in Anaheim, California, Power and Energy Institute of Kentucky (PEIK) and SPARK Lab researchers, Rosemary E. Alden and Steven B. Poore, received the first and second prize, respectively, in the Graduate Student Poster Competition.

Alden is a third year Ph.D. student and Poore is a first year Ph.D. student. Both are currently National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellows and, and previously, members of the University Scholars Program (USP) and Pigman Scholars.

Alden and Poore were joined by two other PEIK and SPARK lab-affiliated Pigman College of Engineering Ph.D. candidates, Kwabena A. Kyeremeh and Donovin D. Lewis at the conference. The group presented posters on topics of distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, integration into electric power distribution systems and large-scale high-resolution distribution system simulations. The PDFs of the posters are available as author’s manuscript versions directly from the links below:

The posters reported on specific research sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the University of Kentucky L. Stanley Pigman Chair in Power Endowment. The work is part of a larger research program within PEIK at UK that includes collaboration with electric power utilities and industry, national laboratories, and other national and international universities. The students are advised by the L. Stanley Pigman Chair in Power Dan M. Ionel, Director of the SPARK Lab and PEIK Institute.

The IEEE PES T&D Conference and Exposition is the largest technical event of the Power and Energy Society (PES) within IEEE and is organized bi-annually. This year’s edition was the 60th year anniversary and attracted more than 13,000 attendees, hundreds of exhibits, technical papers, presentations and posters.
