Students shine at IEEE SoutheastCon 24

The University of Kentucky Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) recently showcased its students' talents at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) SoutheastCon 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The University of Kentucky Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) recently showcased its students' talents at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) SoutheastCon 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. 

With a group of 26 students, UK ECE made a strong impression. 

In the hardware competition, UK ECE teams performed well, securing respectable positions. The team achieved sixth place out of 45 teams in the main competition and a commendable third place in the open competition. ECE students Dustin Bays and Andrew Ohab also secured second place in the hardware design presentation open competition.

Melissa Hannemann and Brandon Holt also won second place in the promotional design t-shirt competition.

In the circuits competition, a team led by Melissa Hannemann, Cannon Shields and Blaine Bailey, claimed second place in the main competition, while a team led by Bashar Issahaku, David Stewart, and Will Banks, won first place in the open competition.

Brandon Holt also showcased strong networking abilities, receiving a first-place win in the professional networking competition.

Additionally, Regina Hannemann, faculty advisor for the UK IEEE student chapter, received the prestigious IEEE Region 3 Joseph M. Biedenbach Outstanding Engineering Educator Award for her dedication to teaching. Hannemann thanked the students and the University of Kentucky ECE community for their support.

UK ECE credits its continued success at IEEE SoutheastCon 2024 to its dedication to excellence in electrical and computer engineering.
