PEIK Supported Solar Car Team Places Seventh in National Race

The Gato Del Sol V, the University of Kentucky Solar Car, which benefits of technical and financial support from PEIK, successfully completed the Formula Sun Grand Prix in Austin, TX on July 3-8. The contest consisted of a technical inspection process followed by driving the car as many laps as possible in a predetermined time frame. The Gato Del Sol V completed 80 laps in three days with the fastest lap of 4 minutes and 34 seconds setting also the speed record for this edition of the competition. Overall, the UK Solar Car Team placed 7th out of 18 teams. The team will soon begin construction of a new vehicle, the Gato Del Sol VI, which will have a smaller solar array, four wheels, and several upgrades.
