Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and a graduate of Southern High School, Richard A. Holloway enrolled in the University of Kentucky where he received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1964. While an undergraduate, he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He later received a Master of Science degree in management from Texas Christian University and was a Senior Executive Sloan Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

After graduation, Mr. Holloway began his engineering career with the Boeing Company, Huntsville, Alabama. Starting as an instrumentation design engineer on NASA’s Apollo Programs, he was responsible for the design and defining the behavior of stress and strain instrumentation at cryogenic temperature. After transferring to Seattle, Washington, he worked as a system integration engineer for the Short Range Attack Missile, and was later named Base Manager of all Boeing operations related to the B-52/SRAM deployment.

In 1978 Mr. Holloway was named the Director of Boeing’s Automated Test Systems Branch in Wichita, Kansas, where he worked closely with the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy to develop the fleet logistics for electro-optics systems. Returning to Huntsville in 1981, Mr. Holloway re-established the Boeing Military Aircraft Company’s operations in Huntsville as General Manager and Director of High-Technology Programs.

In 1986 he joined SCI Systems, Inc. as Senior Vice President, Government Division. SCI Systems, Inc. is a multinational electronics manufacturing services provider with multibillion dollar annual sales. Under his direction the company increased sales backlog by 300% to $300M within five years.

In 1998, Mr. Holloway was named President of Teledyne Brown Engineering. Headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, a multi-disciplinary, high-technology firm. A subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies, Inc., the company employs more than 2,000 with core competencies in systems engineering, system integration, simulation and analysis, sensor engineering, software engineering, and hardware development.

Mr. Holloway’s professional associations include the Aerospace Science Industry Commission, the National Management Association, the Defense Preparedness Association, and the Association of the United States Army. He serves on the Board of Directors of Teledyne Brown Engineering, AmSouth Bank and Smith Advanced Technology. He is also a board member of the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the advisory boards for the College of Administrative Science and the College of Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Awards he has received include the NASA Apollo Roll of Honor, Army Distinguished Service Award, National Management Association Golden Knight Award and the National Conference for Communities and Justice Distinguished Citizen Award.

Mr. Holloway is strongly committed to involvement in his community, particularly in projects that enhance the quality of life for the people of the greater Huntsville area. Some of these include the boards of the Madison County United Way, the Huntsville Botanical Gardens, American Red Cross, the Downtown Rescue Mission, the Arts Council, and the Huntsville City School Foundation. He is a deacon at the First Baptist Church.

An advocate for advancing science and mathematics education particularly among elementary school children, Mr. Holloway is not only active in, but serves as a board member for the North Alabama Science Center, a hands-on science center geared towards elementary age children.

In his free time, Mr. Holloway enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and the game of golf. He and his wife, Phyllis, reside in Huntsville, Alabama. They are the parents of three children, Kimberly Holloway Howard, Richard Todd Holloway, and Karen Holloway Pearson.
