Electrical and Computer Engineering has Ph.D. Fellowships available through Graduate Assistants in Areas of National Need (GAANN) award from the Department of Education.
Full fellowships including full-time tuition, a need-based stipend of up to $27,500, plus educational costs, research materials, and travel support of up to $2700 are available. Applicants must be US Citizens and permanent residents pursuing doctoral research in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UK. Students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, including women and first-generation students, are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program is a federal fellowship program administered by the U.S. Department of Education. The GAANN program aims to build national capacity in a range of educational areas determined by Congress to be “Areas of National Need." The GAANN Fellowship is a three-year program that provides research and teaching training and mentored teaching experience, and GAANN Fellows are guaranteed funding for the duration of their PhD, up to a maximum of five years.
Our program aims to attract, empower, and educate a cohort of highly qualified and diverse Ph.D. students interested in careers in research and teaching. The UK ECE GAANN Fellows will work on challenging and impactful research projects with world-class faculty and participate in an engaging, mentored, teaching program. Fellows will emerge as teachers, researchers, and leaders prepared to positively impact their communities and the nation. The UK ECE GAANN program is committed to increasing the number of students from underrepresented backgrounds pursuing impactful research and teaching careers.
UK ECE GAANN Fellowships are available for student beginning graduate study in Fall 2020.

Nearly all graduate students have financial needs. Eligibility for GAANN Fellowships is based on a student’s demonstrated level of financial need as calculated for purposes of the Federal student financial aid programs under Title IV, part F of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.
