To facilitate research, the Office of the Vice President for Research provides programs and services to support UK faculty, staff and students in grant development and submission, compliance and regulatory affairs, development of intellectual property and in highlighting their research achievements. This includes oversight and guidance of 10 multidisciplinary Research centers and 11 service core facilities.
The Office of the Vice President for Research hosts a series of workshops designed to help faculty accelerate their research activities. Videos of these workshops are available via linkblue login at the following website.
The Proposal Development Office (PDO) staff conduct funding searches for a specific project that researchers wish to pursue, assist in the preparation of competitive proposals by reviewing and critiquing proposal drafts, providing descriptive material on UK resources, and writing sections of the proposal where appropriate. PDO staff can also link researchers with others on campus with similar research interests for possible multidisciplinary projects. PDO staff have extensive experience with a broad variety of funding mechanisms, federal agencies, and private sponsors.
The Office of Research Administration (OSPA) is responsible for administering extramural grants and contracts awarded through the University of Kentucky Research Foundation. Services are available to all University faculty and staff and include: advice and assistance with budget preparation and other administrative requirements of proposals; review, negotiation and acceptance of awards; information regarding sponsor policies and regulations; preparation of subcontract documents. University policy regarding soliciting and receiving sponsored projects is found in AR 7:3. OSPA also administers the Conflict of Interest policy (AR 7:2).
Search the OSPA database of funded projects (titles, keywords and abstracts), with input search options including multiple keywords, phrases and even multiple sentences or short abstracts. Using more sophisticated data-mining algorithms, this tool is able to find and rank the funded projects that most closely match the search query, highlighting the words matching the query. The tool also provides a list of the 25 investigators and academic units whose work most closely match the search query as well as a list of the funding agencies associated with the projects that match the query.
Office of Research Integrity (ORI) supports the institution in promoting the ethical conduct of human research and educating UK students and employees regarding research misconduct regulations, and data ownership. ORI also provides support for seven federally mandated review committees: four Medical and one Nonmedical Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the Radioactive Drug Research Committee (RDRC).
The Office of the Attending Veterinarian administers all aspects of research, including oversight of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Division of Lab Animal Resources (DLAR).
The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) is the technology transfer office for the University of Kentucky (UK). The core mission of the OTC is to facilitate the commercialization of UK innovations and discoveries for the benefit of the University community, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and global society.
