An engineering education comprises much more than classroom learning. Engineers who are exposed to different disciplines and contexts expand their capacity to solve different kinds of problems. That’s why our First-Year Engineering program assigns hands-on engineering challenges early in your engineering studies. Employers partnering with our Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) pay you to apply your UK education to their unique challenges. International study programs expand your world and place your education in a global context. Put it all together and an engineering graduate from UK is far more than someone who can simply ace a test.
Pigman Hall is home to Engineering Living Learning Program, UK’s largest living-learning program. It is no typical residence hall; it harnesses the collective brainpower of engineering students from all disciplines. When you’re not in class or studying, you can avail yourself to student organizations geared around engineering competitions and community outreach. If you would rather give your brain a rest and blow off steam, Lexington features an attractive downtown, Keeneland Race Track and state parks within a short driving distance. And, of course, Wildcats passionately cheer on their athletic teams.
Most of our students have secured engineering jobs or graduate school acceptance before they graduate. That’s because we emphasize career development early in your academic journey. Our friendly staff within the Engineering Career and Co-op Center are experts know what it takes to succeed. They can help you secure a co-op rotation, assist you with a new resume and even coach you before job interviews. Plus, at UK, employers come to you! In addition to on-campus interviews by visiting companies, twice a year, UK hosts massive career fairs. Imagine 90-120 business and technology companies eager to interview you for co-op, internship and full-time positions! Not only will you have a desirable major or degree, you’ll also have the confidence and professionalism needed to succeed.
