The Dean's Scholarships for Transfer Students

The Dean’s Scholarships for Transfer Students are used to support outstanding transfer students. The University of Kentucky College of Engineering awards scholarships to incoming engineering students transferring from another college, community college or university. Scholarships are available for students entering UK during both the fall and the spring semesters.

Instructions for application:

  • Make certain to submit official transcripts from each school attended to the UK Admissions Office. A minimum of 24 credit hours must be completed to be considered
  • Include with your scholarship application one letter of recommendation from a math and/or science instructor at your current school
  • Also include with your application a double-spaced, 250-word essay that includes your educational and career goals, specific financial needs and any special circumstances
  • Applicants must have taken calculus (MA113 equivalent) with a grade of at least B. Stronger candidates will have taken physics (PHY231 equivalent) earning at least a B grade, however, all students with the calc requirement met will be considered for the scholarship. In addition, candidates must have a 3.0 or above Transfer GPA since that is the GPA requirement to maintain and renew the scholarship in the Pigman College of Engineering.

Each applicant must satisfy all University of Kentucky requirements for entrance into a College of Engineering degree program before being considered for these scholarships. Please visit Scholarship Universe to apply once you have been accepted to UK.

Graduates of Kentucky high schools with need will also be considered for the L. Stanley Pigman Scholarship. Mr. Pigman is from Knott County, Kentucky and graduated from The College with a degree in Mining Engineering. Mr. Pigman received a scholarship to attend UK and credits his success to that support.  As a result, in 1999 he established a scholarship to help students who struggle to pay for their education.
