Engineering Takes Flight Friday October 9, 2026 2:00 p.m.

Engineering Takes Flight returns to the University of Kentucky this fall, bringing an up-close look at military aviation to campus for the fourth year.

Organized by the Engineering Living Learning Program in the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering, the annual event gives UK students and members of the community a rare opportunity to see military aircraft up close and learn more about the engineering, technology and people behind their operation.

Each year, Engineering Takes Flight has brought something different to campus. The inaugural event featured the AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom, followed by the V-22 Osprey in year two and the UH-60 Black Hawk in year three.

Last year’s Black Hawk offered attendees a close-up look at one of the world’s most widely used military helicopters. More than 4,000 Black Hawk aircraft of various types are in service around the world, supporting missions ranging from combat assault and medical evacuation to search and rescue, airlift, aerial firefighting, VIP transport and special operations.

What aircraft will touch down at UK this year? Stay tuned. Details about the 2026 aircraft and event activities will be announced as plans are finalized.
