The College of Engineering raised $1,214,157 for One Day for UK thanks to 585 donors, which was the most money raised from the most donors during the university-wide giving day on April 21, 2022.

Materials science alum Jack Cheng gave $1,000,000. Cheng, the founder, president and CEO of AA Metals, completed his Ph.D. from the UK College of Engineering in 2000 and his MBA from the UK Gatton College of Business and Economics in 2003.

“I give to the UK College of Engineering because so many alumni gave in ways that benefited me when I was an engineering student,” Cheng said. “I’m proud to be part of the UK College of Engineering legacy of lifting up future generations.”

The College of Engineering Young Alumni Philanthropy Council (YAPCo) gave $25,000. YAPCo brings together engineering alumni under 40 years old who are passionate about making a difference for engineering students. “We hope future UK engineers understand that they have a community of alumni who support them,” said Michael Graeher, chair of the council.

The College of Engineering also received $25,000 toward the Engineering Scholarship Gift Fund from electrical engineering alum Kenneth Ruth when the college reached 250 donors. Ruth’s gift helped galvanize other alumni to join the challenge and participate in One Day for UK.

The University of Kentucky overall raised $2,408,769 from 3,409 donors on One Day for UK.
