Recently, Grace Sun, a 16-year-old Paul Laurence Dunbar High School student, was awarded the $75,000 top prize from the 2024 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair at the world’s largest pre-college science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competition.
Sun's improvement on an implantable medical device that could work inside the body to help diagnose and treat health problems was completed under the supervision of Alexandra F. Paterson, assistant professor of materials and electrical engineering, and her research team in the Organic Materials and Devices Laboratory at the Center for Applied Energy Research.
