Fourteen students from the University of Kentucky College of Engineering traveled to Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) SoutheastCon 2017 in Charlotte, N.C. March 30 – April 2. Students participated in a variety of competitions: hardware competition, software competition, ethics competition, student paper competition, t-shirt design competition and website competition. Ted Ferguson won second place in the student paper competition with his research paper “Hardware Implementation of Synapses Using Memristors.” The UK team took first place in the T-shirt competition and was the alternate team for the finals in the ethics competition.

In addition to the competitions, several UK students participated in the officer training offered by the region. The training sessions encourage student officers to grow their branch, offer events ideas and give them tips for effective leadership.
