Ford’s presentation was on the Kentucky Re-entry Universal Payload System (KRUPS) project. KRUPS, run by UK College of Engineering faculty and students, collects data to help scientists better understand the upper atmosphere and build thermal protection systems. Ford is the project leader of KRUPS.
The Outstanding Oral Student Presentation Award is given in support of the exploration of Solar System atmospheres and surfaces using atmospheric entry and descent probes, aerial vehicles, landers, rovers and penetrators.
The winners for the awards at the IPPW-19 are chosen by the International Organizing Committee, Ashley M. Korzun and Robert Buchwald, and the Student Organizing Committee, co-chaired by Ruth A. Miller and Siddharth Krishnamoorthy.
