Zach Agioutantis, Mining Engineering Foundation Professor and chair of the Mining Engineering Department, has been elected to serve on the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA) Board of Directors. 

Agioutantis was elected by ARMA members and will serve a six-year term. His begins after the conclusion of the 2023 ARMA Annual Meeting on June 29, where Agioutantis also served as the track lead for mining. 

ARMA is a professional and international engineering and scientific society, which promotes interaction among specialists, practitioners, scholars, and educators in rock mechanics and geomechanics. The organization advocates for individuals and firms in all aspects of rock mechanics and geomechanics, including multi-disciplinary rock physics and rock engineering technology advancement and technological applications for civil engineering, mining engineering and tunneling, oil and gas recovery, and geo-related socioeconomic problem-solving. ARMA provides a forum and information resources for our members, related organizations, and the public, while its student membership ensures future continuity.
