The University of Kentucky is proud to offer the only undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering in the state of Kentucky. The Aerospace Engineering program is housed in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and is led by numerous faculty members with highly reputable research and expertise in a broad range of aerospace applications including controls, propulsion and hypersonics.
The purpose of the aerospace certificate program is to provide students with a formalized recognition of an emphasis in aerospace subjects as part of their undergraduate degree program. In addition, this certificate program will increase the state-wide and nation-wide recognition of UK’s involvement in aerospace education and research.
Mechanical engineers apply their expertise to the design, development and mass production of everything from rocket propulsion systems to appliances. Professionals in the industry use mathematics, computers, sophisticated modeling and analysis to solve problems associated with energy usage, propulsion, power generation, sound and vibration, machinery design and manufacturing.
The Production Engineering Certificate (PEC) in the College of Engineering, provides students with unique hands-on experience, development of problem-solving skills, and knowledge integration using Lean thinking principles. PEC aims at enhancing students' learning in capstone senior design projects, basics of automotive production processes, teamwork, principles of Lean manufacturing and applications to automotive production engineering.
Don't wait for graduate school to participate in cutting-edge research. In the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, many of our undergraduate students work side-by-side with faculty and graduate students on innovative, pioneering research.
By working in the hands-on environment of mechanical engineering research, students have an opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world problems. Our undergraduates often present the results of their research at regional and national conferences and the department has a long tradition of student recognition and awards for outstanding research projects. In addition, undergraduate research provides an excellent foundation for future graduate work, which is why every year some of our top graduates elect to pursue a Master's or Ph.D. degree at UK or other outstanding universities throughout the country.

In our global economy, you can expect to work and collaborate with leaders and engineers from other cultures. Through the college’s education abroad programs, you can study in Germany, Italy, China, Malaysia, Japan, Brazil, Scotland and more—usually without delaying progress toward your engineering degree. So, consider increasing your versatility and broadening your horizons by making an unforgettable international study experience part of your academic plan.
If you want to specialize in an area your major may not cover, a certificate may be right for you. While certificate programs feature courses dedicated to specific areas of expertise, they do not require as many credit hours as minors.
We want to give you the extra edge you need to succeed! The College of Engineering awards scholarships to freshmen, continuing, and transfer students. Most engineering scholarships are partial awards ranging from $500.00 to $5,000.00 per year, and the average first-year scholarship ranges from $1,500.00 to $3,000.00.
