With over 30 full-time faculty members dedicated to teaching and research, the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering supports research in numerous relevant fields. We advance aerospace research and often work with NASA on research methods for its future missions. Mechanical and aerospace engineering is a diverse discipline, and our robust faculty is engaged in every aspect of it.

Support the Fund
Gifts to the Mechanical Engineering Enhancement Fund can supplement existing operating budgets or provide revenue that can be directed toward emerging needs and opportunities such as scholarships, faculty support, facility enhancement and unrestricted support for departments. This valuable support allows the college to be flexible and responsive and demonstrate the truth that there is power in numbers.

Thirteen University of Kentucky undergraduate researchers will present their work at the 23rd annual Posters-at-the-Capitol on March 6, including Asa O'Neal, senior mechanical engineering and physics major. The event will feature research topics including community health, agricultural sustainability, renewable energy and public health and safety.
This Friday, Dec. 20, the University of Kentucky will honor nearly 2,000 of its newest alumni during the December 2024 Commencement ceremonies. On this episode of “Behind the Blue,” UK is spotlighting two of those graduates — Jayla McCoy and Nathan Reynolds — hearing their stories about their time at UK, the memories they’ll carry forward and how they’re ready to apply what they’ve learned to the next exciting chapters of their lives.
Researchers in the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky are at the forefront of advancing space travel safety and reliability by improving heat shields for NASA’s Artemis program.
