Jayla McCoy is from Cleveland, Ohio and is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science. At UK, in addition to being a Student Ambassador for the College of Engineering, Jayla was an Ambassador for the Lewis Honors College for 4 years, a Resident Advisor for 4 years, and a UK 101 Peer Instructor for 3 years. Jayla currently serves as the Parliamentarian for the National Society of Black Engineers and has been a K Crew leader twice. She is also an active member of the Iota Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated where she currently serves as the Vice President. Additionally, she is an active member and the previous Communications Co-Chair for Omicron Delta Kappa, one of the four National Honor Societies on campus. She has done 5 internships/co-ops in her undergraduate career and plans to pursue an MBA one day. For the Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 term, she had the opportunity to work two rotations with GE Appliances at the headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky. In the Summer of 2022 she worked at Toyota as a Production Engineer. Then in Summer of 2023 she was in California working at Northrop Grumman as an Electronics Engineer. Finally, for the Summer of 2024 she was at Columbia University doing Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering research on pregnancy trying to come up with ways to determine pre-term birth. When she has free time, Jayla enjoys going to the movies, trying new restaurants, going to the mall, and watching Netflix!
