As director of the Central Appalachian Regional Education Research Center (CARERC) and the Southeast Center for Agricultural Health and Injury Prevention (SCAHIP) my focus is on research and education concerning health and safety problems facing our nation’s workers and rural residents. The research projects of my many students cover a very broad range of topics encompassing epidemiology, exposure assessment, risk assessment, and implementing and assessing control measures. Our studies address the causes and prevention of respiratory diseases, cancer, infectious diseases, birth defects, kidney disease, and injuries.
