Funding Opportunities

As with most master’s degree programs in the United States, our students are typically self-funded, supported by an employer, or are receiving an external fellowship. There are, however, two potential sources of funding specific to the Data Science program:

• IBI Fellowship: the Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI) welcomes applications for Data Science graduate research assistantships to work with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Office of Health Data Analytics (located in Frankfort, KY). The research assistants will work with the IBI data analytics team to conduct an analysis of program outcomes to support program evaluations, financial analysis, and policy analysis for distribution to internal and extremal stakeholders. This is a full-time (20 hours a week) graduate research assistantship with an annual stipend of $26,000 and tuition/health. The start date is negotiable, and the assistantship may be renewable for multiple years. Members of underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. The assistantship is only available to US Citizens or Permanent Residents. All eligible applicants for the Data Science program will be automatically considered for this assistantship; no additional application materials are required. • Research Assistantships: Individual faculty and staff often hire our students. Such positions may or may not include tuition, and are usually between 10-20 hours per week of work. Offers are typically made after a student has been admitted to the program, often after the student has done well in a class taught by the faculty member. These positions are not managed by the Data Science Program and are at the discretion of the hiring individual. Interested students should contact individual faculty members.
