Applications are now being accepted for the Halcomb Fellowship in Medicine and Engineering. The fellowship consists of an annual stipend of $30,000 with the option of renewal for a second year based on research project progress.

Applicant must be a current graduate student in the College of Engineering and shall have active mentor(s) in one of the following colleges: College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy or College of Health Sciences. Applicants should also have a record of intellectual and academic achievement and leadership ability. A primary goal of the Halcomb Fellowship is to prepare graduate students for research that not only advances science, but also serves patients and has a positive impact in healthcare.

College of Engineering Applicants

Applicants must have active mentors in the fields of both engineering and one of the following: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or health sciences. For example, an applicant could be advised by a major professor with a faculty appointment in the College of Engineering, along with a co-mentor in the College of Medicine (or vice versa) or in the College of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy or College of Health Sciences. Note that it is not required that both mentors have faculty appointments, i.e., an applicant with a mentor in industry would be eligible. Applicants whose mentors are clinicians with active partnerships and/or collaborations with industry are strongly encouraged.

College of Medicine Applicants

Applicants must have mentors in the fields of both engineering and medicine, with one typical situation involving a major professor with a faculty appointment in the College of Engineering, along with a co-mentor in the College of Medicine (or vice versa). Note that it is not required that both mentors have faculty appointments, i.e., an applicant with a mentor in industry would be eligible. Applicants whose mentors are clinicians with active partnerships and/or collaborations with industry are strongly encouraged.
