Chelupati graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2005 with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering where he worked as a graduate research assistant for Professor Lindell Ormsbee in the Kentucky Water Resources Research Institute during his graduate program.

The 40 Under 40 Recognition Program was introduced to recognize talented individuals who have, either personally or as part of a team, been responsible for helping to advance the fields of Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering in a demonstrable way within the last 12 months. Winners are chosen by a panel of past recipients who weigh equally business successes and civic/philanthropic activities.

From the AAEES 40 Under 40 Recognition Program about Chelupati:

It is hard to imagine a someone more dedicated to their craft and committed to furthering the water engineering industry than Muralikrishna Chelupati, and this makes his selection for the AAEES 40 Under 40 Recognition Award clearly deserved. Krishna has a tremendous positive influence at work in his role as a Senior Associate in Stantec’s Cleveland, Ohio office. Krishna does it all – he delivers results of unmatched quality and ingenuity while working with utility clients from the proposal through the design phase to guide successful project delivery and execution. Alongside his efforts in the office, Krishna has demonstrated a consistent willingness to offer his time and talents in volunteering roles. He currently serves on the Board of the Northeast Section of the Ohio Water Environment Association (NESOWEA) as a member of the executive committee, where he routinely engages in the local community to promote the importance of wastewater treatment and operations. Working with local universities, Krishna developed the NESOWEA Student Design Competition which allows students the opportunity to work in teams and engage with industry mentors while they work to address a real-world wastewater treatment and stormwater problem statements. Additionally, he has offered his time as a guest lecturer for the Case Western Reserve University Engineering Hydraulics and Hydrology course. Aside from his resume, his accolades, and the caliber of his work, Krishna’s general demeanor makes him an especially effective agent of positive change. Success as an industry leader can be achieved by commanding respect alone – but the ability to meaningfully connect with others on a personal level makes for a truly unique and effective style of leadership.
