Ni Su, assistant professor in the F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering, has been awarded the James F. Lafferty Faculty Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering, effective July 1.

Su is the director of the Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine Lab, which is dedicated to developing innovative biomaterial platforms to advance tissue regeneration and deepen understanding of disease mechanisms through the lens of immune interactions. Her interdisciplinary research integrates biomaterials engineering, immunology and stem cell biology to investigate how the immune system influences healing and disease progression, with a particular focus on aging and musculoskeletal conditions. Su's research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed scientific journals such as Advanced Materials, Science Advances and Biomaterials.

After completing her postdoctoral work in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University, Su joined UK in August 2024. At Stanford, she was a recipient of the Stanford Maternal and Child Health Research Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship and was honored with the the 2024 Outstanding Postdoc Award from TERMIS-Americas. In recognition of her exceptional mentorship contributions, Su also received the Stanford Bio-X STAR Mentor Award.

The James F. Lafferty Faculty Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering is one of two faculty fellowships created by Dr. Joseph Halcomb to attract junior faculty who demonstrate promise in strategic areas. The two-year fellowship, which has possibility for renewal, provides awardees $10,000 for research and related expenses.
